IAU past projects

Jigger Eradication

9th to 11th March 2012

Indian Association joined forces with the political leadership and the people of Busoga Region in the Jigger Eradication Campaign. Following the initiatives of the Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda the Association spent days focusing its attention particularly on the Sub counties of Balawoli and Kitayundwa in Kamuli District as its humble contribution to this exercise. 

The volunteers who joined us including Indian doctors did a wonderful job in extending hand of help to the local Public Health team.

The mobile Dental Clinic was extensively used, 75 patients were treated whereas 150 patients suffering from Jigger disease in the camp.

Relief items worth 50 Million shillings were distributed in the area.

Sports, entertainment & inter cultural Activities

Yr 2012

We organized a drawing, rangoli, electronic essay competition in conjunction with Tamil Sangam. A lot of community members participated. His Excellency, High commissioner of India to Uganda was invited for prize distribution.


Holi(Dhuleti)

2012

The function was organized by Rajasthani Association in conjunction with the Indian Association in grand splendor.

Artists were invited from India & South Africa. The high Commission in conjunction Indian Council of Cultural Relations invited a group of folk dancers from Rajasthan.


Business Delegation to India with H.E.Y.K Museveni the President of Uganda

8 April 2008

Indian Association in conjunction with UIA, Uganda high commissioner in India & Ministry of Foreign affairs in mobilizing delegation of Indian –Ugandan Business Houses to be part of a political & business delegation led by H.E.Y.K Museveni.

We supported & promoted Uganda, quoting the live examples of the Indian Business Houses in Uganda to Indian Business Community represented by CII, ASSOCHAM & others


Image India Project( Heart Surgery)

25th November 2011

Every year, the Indian Association sponsors Ugandan children with heart ailments for heart surgery and treatment in India. 

The “Image India” slogan virtually became a reality amongst Govt. of Uganda officials after the visit of chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Narendra Modi  

In 2011, ten heart surgeries were sponsored in Bangalore, India at a cost of about 200 Million Uganda Shillings. Names of the patients;

In 2008, six children were successfully operated upon at Narayana Hrudalaya, Hospital in Bangalore, India at a cost of about 100 Million Uganda Shillings

Deepavli Food festival

The number of participants keeps growing every year and it remains the most enjoyable & entertaining event all year


St. Peters School Jinja

Yr 2011

The school administration has been restructured and a girl’s dormitory constructed in 2008,the building surrounding have also been up graded including the walk ways, sign posts, painting exteriors. Fire extinguishers have also been installed

We managed to repay the loan taken in 2008-09 and turned the school from a loss making institution to profit making in 3 years.


Meeting with the Immigration Dept.

2009, 2010, 2011

In the past three years we had more than 8 meetings with the department, some at board levels, and some at operation levels.

The meetings so far have been successful and we have maintained a cordial sustainable relationship with the department.


Memorandum to the Excellency, the president.

2011

A memorandum was submitted to His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of Uganda by Hon. Sanjay Tanna & Mr. Murtaza depicting some difficulties faced by our community.


Hon. Sanjay Tanna’s Facilitation Party

2011

A facilitation party was organized for the victory celebration of Hon. Sanjay Tanna at Kabira country club for his election as a Member of Parliament in the Ugandan Parliament.

It was attended by political dignitaries & His Excellency the President, during his speech he congratulated Hon. Sanjay Tanna for his performance and called our community for a meeting.


Land Slides in Bududa 

1st March 2010

The Indian Association visited the Bulecheke Camp in March with 50 members of Indian Community, camping at the site for two days. 2000 victims were helped and distributed items worth Ugx 100 million in person under the guidance of Camp management team. 

14th April 2010

The Indian Association visited the camp again on 14th April in conjunction with Zain Uganda by then to distribute scholastic materials to School going children, phones and internet modems for intercommunication free of cost amongst relief workers and volunteers.


India Independence Cricket Tournament

8th-9th August 2009

We had a blood donation drive and the turn of participants was very encouraging

Communities supported it spontaneously and  the attendance  for the 1st year was fairly good the second year was even better

Visit of Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat

He came with a high powered delegation & shared his thoughts with the Indian Community at the UIA premises

He invited our delegation for a vibrant Gujarat function. We were the second largest delegation. Hon. Dr.Gilbert Bukenya was honored as chief guest on the closing ceremony.

Hon. Chief Minister Mr. Narendra Modi promised that his office would render assistance to our community whenever it was needed
